Getting started
Beam combines a focused recorder and a non-destructive video editor in one desktop application.
Install Beam
Download the latest release from the Beam releases page. Choose the package for your operating system.
- Windows uses the native installer.
- macOS uses a DMG for Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 13 or newer.
- Linux provides AppImage, DEB, and RPM packages.
Create your first recording
- Open Beam and choose Screen or Window in the recorder HUD.
- Select a display, an application window, or a custom region.
- Choose the microphone, system audio, and camera sources you need.
- Start the recording, then use the recorder bar to pause, resume, or stop.
- Stop the recording and wait for Beam to open the project in the video editor.

The operating system may request screen-recording, microphone, camera, or interaction permissions. Beam only requests access when the related feature needs it.
Platform differences
Source selection and permission prompts differ across Windows, macOS, Linux, X11, and Wayland. Review platform support before an important recording.
