Names, folders, and sessions
New recordings receive generated names such as Clever Comet or Rapid Signal. A numeric suffix is added when a generated name already exists. A project is a folder that can contain multiple recording sessions and their separate media tracks.
| Platform | Project root |
|---|---|
| Windows | %USERPROFILE%\Videos\Beam\user\projects |
| macOS | ~/Movies/Beam/user/projects |
| Linux | ${XDG_VIDEOS_DIR:-~/Videos}/Beam/user/projects |
Preview and badges
Beam prefers the persisted thumbnail.webp. If it is missing, Beam can generate a WebP thumbnail from the available preview source. Hovering a project plays its screen recording muted, automatically, and in a loop; scrolling cancels the hover preview and stops playback.
| Badge | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Monitor | The project contains a screen recording. |
| Video | The project contains camera footage. |
| Captions | The project contains captions or a text layer. |
Badge scope
The current Project Manager does not show separate microphone or system-audio badges.
Batch deletion
A single-project delete asks for confirmation. Batch deletion starts directly from selection mode and deletes projects sequentially rather than starting every filesystem operation at once.
